Utica's public works crews had used about 7,000 tons of road salt by January 9, 2026 (Rome Sentinel). The concrete industry's advice: hose off salt that cars carry onto driveways and garage slabs, because de-icers make freeze-thaw flaking worse.

Rome's Griffiss Airfield averages about 95 days a year that freeze overnight and thaw in the day, against about 87 at the Utica airport (NOAA 1991-2020 normals: nights at or below freezing minus days that stay below it).
